I'm 39 weeks pregnant today.
While checking out the cashier says to me,
"When are you due, TODAY?!"
I laughed and said, "Pretty much."
She went on to tell me how bad it hurts to have a baby, " Mmm mmm...I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. Nobody told me how bad it hurts. Everyone said, 'oh what a joy!' and I was totally unprepared for the pain. So I tell everyone how bad it hurts."
I just laughed, partly because it is strange that she didn't realize it would hurt to push a person out of her and partly because I didn't know what else to do.
Then the lady behind me in line says the cashier,
"I stood here 4 years ago and you told me the exact same thing."
She then turns to me and says, "It's not that bad. I only pushed for 13 minutes. People want to tell you their horror stories but they aren't all that way."
The cashier raised her eyebrows and said, "Well I guess everyones different."
I'm thinking maybe God put that lady behind me in line.
Are you telling me you're with me God?
I think He is.

I know he is! Wonderful pic.

ReplyDeleteHe'll be with you always! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that the lady was there behind you with comforting words. You don't need to hear how painful it is! Less stress is better no matter what!
ReplyDeleteCandis, I know you will do great! If it was really that bad no one would ever have more than one child. All 3 of my labors were managable. I didn't even have an epidural with my first one. Everyone always told me as soon as the baby comes out, you don't even remeber the pain. I always thought that was crap but it is very true. I know I was in pain but if my life depended on telling you what it felt like i'd be dead...lol Anyway good luck with everything and enjoy every moment!
ReplyDeletethis is soooo funny. "i stood here 4 years ago and you told me the exact same thing" hahahaha i love it.
ReplyDeleteomg i am waiting for a fb or blog announcement that he's here b/c seriously, any day now!!! cant wait!!!!! so excited for you!!!!!
Dear Candis,
ReplyDeleteI met you once or twice a couple years ago when I worked with Drew... I have to tell you - I really love reading your blog from time to time. Your taste is impeccable, your stories are at once darling, amusing and thoroughly enjoyable! I am so happy for you and Drew & your forthcoming little bundle!!
And, as far as painful labor goes - It's true, everyone IS different. They say to look to your mother's experience for insight... But, really, TRULY, even the worst pain of labor only lasts a few hours (or less) in grand scheme of things. While it can be incredibly difficult to remember that in the midst of it, the payoff is AMAZING. Best of luck! :-) ~Mara
Ooo, I just got chills, seriously.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to have to start blog stalking you to see when that baby is born. So even if it's a post without pictures and in code language, let me know! I'm so excited for you!
And OMG, I just saw my pillow! I have pregnant eyes too, sorry.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Mara :) I think you have commented before and I have wondered if you were the same Mara that Drew worked with! He said you are a newlywed! Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteE - YES I LOVE THE PILLOW! I have been using it on the couch every. single. night. The softness is sooooo nice. I'll be sure to use the code lang. btw.
