I had my 38 week appointment with my midwife yesterday. She had a student with her and they measured my belly, poked and prodded around and then got out the doppler heart reader thingy.

It was a perfect storm of agitation for him to have his heart rate up.

I had to lay down on my back. (he is not a fan)

They took turns finding his head and pressing on it. (oh, man how he hates this)

I asked them to try and figure out his weight so they pushed on his back and found his body parts to feel the best they could.

(He pushed back)

So by the time the doppler hit my belly he was all sorts of worked up. His heart rate was REALLY high and he wouldn't settle down. He just kept shifting and kicking and wouldn't relax. Eventually after waiting for awhile with no success she asked me to turn on my left side. This is the way we sleep every night because it is painful and forbidden to sleep any other way right now. He settled down immediately.

I couldn't help but laugh.

One, I was happy he settled down.

But mostly, I knew the whole time he was okay. I already knew that laying on my back and pushing on his head was going to get him agitated and that we would be there a while waiting for him to relax. I just find it so funny and cute that this little baby in me has preferences. Lay on my left and leave his head alone and he is good to go.

No problem baby. :) At least until my next appointment.
