We had Westley's 1st birthday party at our house on Saturday. It was so much fun and I will be posting photos soon, but in the mean time I wanted to share the invitations I made!
Before you go complimenting me on the fantastic design, you must know that I was completely inspired (read this: I totally copied) by these nautical wedding invites. You've probably seen them floating around pinterest-land.
I really loved the look of those but wanted something less grown-up. So I made the striped paper by coloring those uneven stripes onto cardstock with a yellow marker. Then I was able to run it through my printer easy peasy. I bought the white cord tied at the top by the yard at a fabric store. I wanted the envelopes to be customized, but didn't want to spend money on something that would just be thrown away so I just used black ink to draw a little sailboat on the envelope flap and then Westley's name for the guest on the bottom.
I came up with the wording myself, as I like lighthearted copy. And you will notice that I photo-shopped my contact info out, but it was there I promise. Although I did have to make a second batch of invites because I forgot to put WHERE the party was at on the first ones. Classic.
Cute and economical, I think I spent a total of $5 to make these. I already had cardstock, yellow markers and envelopes at home and just had to buy the white cord. I had a lot of fun with it and I think it set the tone nicely for the little nautical shin dig we had for our sweet boy!
Super cute! I knew they would be. You have a gift for this stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove them, Candis.
ReplyDeleteCrafty McCrafterson.
Love these, so sweet and so simple! Perfect for my future little sailor!
ReplyDeletelove, love, love these. They are so perfectly you. And a wonderful representation of Westley's ever so stylish, laid back boyhood.
ReplyDeleteLogistical question, did you pop these in the mail or hand deliver? I have had some serious trouble with cards going through the mail when any sort of bulk (like the cord) is included. I would love to know your trick if you have one.
I popped them in the mail. Here is the trick though - if you have any sort of bulk whatsoever you need to add extra postage so that they hand process your mail instead of putting it through the machine. If they try to put it through the machine and it gets stuck, they get pissed and your stuff doesn't get delivered.
ReplyDeleteAt the post office they have this plastic thing that looks like a stencil with a slit. They will put your envelope through that slit to test if it will make it through the machine. If it gets stuck, they ask for more postage. So I think I put like a regular stamp and a postcard stamp on these.
I learned this because I put a wax seal on the outside of our wedding invites and the lady at the post office then told me all about it.
Hope that helps!!! :)
I'm sorry I got that wrong, a regular stamp and a 20 cent stamp. :)
ReplyDeleteWow!! These are so cute! You are very talented & your little boy is getting so big :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award on my site :) http://loveandstories.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/blogger-award/ Happy blogging!
They're perfect and so fun! I would expect nothing less from you.
ReplyDeleteWe're actually doing a nautical theme for Cohen's first birthday as well. These are so adorable and I can't believe it's done free hand with marker for the stripes. Love em. Totally inspired.
