Labor List

 25 weeks.

Can I ask ya'll for some assistance?

I am making a playlist of music to listen to while I'm in labor.

Last time I didn't really prepare a list and ended up playing something random that I didn't like and asked to be turned off at some point.

Turns out I am very picky about laboring music.

- I only want to listen to a woman singing.
- I don't want anything loud or boisterous.
- I don't want anything depressing or breakupy.

So if you have any good suggestions will you let me know?

I made a playlist of a few of the songs on my list already. You can listen to it here.

THANK YOU!

  1. I love that song by Allie Moss. Here's a playlist I made a few years back that might have a few good songs for you. Female & upbeat.

I listened to nothing while I had Tate, and given my state of mind, I don't think I'll listen to anything the next time around. As much as I love music, I feel like mid-labor it would feel like I had a fly buzzing around my head.

I do love the idea of the perfect labor playlist though. :)

  2. Brooke Waggoner is slow and soft without being heavy or disheartening.

If you have Spotify, I could send a playlist your way and you can take from it what you'd like! I LOVE making playlists. It's my spiritual gift.

Also - the spiritual gift comment made me lol.

  5. I am a total failure when it comes to knowing music, but your requirements sound perfect. Last time I wished I had music. Maybe I will just steal your perfectly curated playlist once it is ready. :)

  6. based on my interpretation of your wishlist, I'd recommend the likes of Ingrid Michaelson, Brandi Carlile, Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones, etc. maybe Florence + the Machine. they have a lot of music that's on the mellow and positive side, but you have to sift through the songs a bit because some are a bit breakup-y.

that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

    1. Great suggestions! I need to look into Florence and The Machine more because I love her stuff but don't know it as well as the others so I might be missing out on a gem in there.

Elizabeth has a birthing playlist on her 8tracks, which is creepy coming from me and not her... oh well :)

    1. I need to check out that list of Elizabeth's. I think she may have sent it to me in old mix cd form and I might have them already...and they are all good and remind me so much of newborn Westley!

  9. Lately, I'm loving the We Bought a Zoo soundtrack. It's all by Jonsi and super light and uplifting. I think he's a boy, but totally sounds like a girl, so it's all the same :)

  11. I second the We Bought a zoo soundtrack. I would also check out more some of Katie Herzig's stuff from her The Waking Sleep album, some of Gungor's music (maybe from their Ghosts Upon the Earth album), and SisterBrother.

  15. I second Florence and the Machine.

Look up old Damien Rice music. It has a girl that sings in it too.

  16. Not a girl singing, but this song leaves me sobbing.

  17. Hi Candis! I'm hereto recommend "Blessed Be" by Allison Krauss and "Forever Young" by Audra Mae.

Also, I had to tell you that I'm cloth diapering August and it's going great! Thanks for your post about that. We repurposed our wash clOths to use as wipes and it works really well. We just keep a cup of water on the changing table. I think you said in your cd post that you'd thought of using cloth wipes so I wanted to include that tidbit. Take care!
